Pertumbuhan dan Penampilan Warna Serta Reproduksi Ikan Pelangi Mungil Melanotaenia praecox pada pH Perairan yang Berbeda

Melanotaenia praecox, also known as dwarf rainbowfish is one of the ornamental fish that became export commodity. It live endemic in the Iritoi area and Dabra Irian (Papua). Aim of this study was to determine the effect of different water pH on the growth and the color appearance of M.praecox. The growth parameters (length and weight), the color of fish and survival rate was observed. The treatments were four different pH range is pH 4-5, 5-6, 6-7 and 7-8 with repeated three times. Each treatment contained 10 fishs with the age was 3 months old. During the study, fish fed with Chironomus . The research lasted for 4 (four) months from November 2011 until March 2012 with the data collection every week. The test results showed that M.praecox fish can tolerate pH range 4-8. The weight growth, color appearance and reproduction of M.praecox was not affected/not significantly different (P>0.05) in all treatments. The range of pH 6-7 is better for maintenance of M.praecox because fish length growth can be optimized.
